For me, this week always starts on a sad note, i.e. the anniversary of the death of Sen and former Naval Lt Cmdr - John S McCain III.

Hey there peeps,

Recently I was looking through the holidays for the rest of the year and realized that the Coast Guard celebrated its anniversary during the past week.

Understandable emphasis is placed on major military remembrances like Memorial Day, 9/11 and Veterans' Day.

However, it's ironic that I (and probably most Americans) didn't know that a major military anniversary like Coast Guard Birthday coincides with a time of year when we enjoy freedom to its fullest as we frolic, travel and relax for the summer.

So knowing that this freedom is only possible through the honorable, relentless sacrifice of military personnel like the Coast Guard, this week I felt compelled to focus on the theme of heroism.

Hi there!

It's summer time and a lot of your kids are probably taking advantage of the extra free time to play, interact and bond with their pets.

I love animals but I've never really bonded with dogs.

I'm amazed by their capacity to learn, their loyalty and their protective instincts but their barking, pouncing, drooling and yes, biting have never won me over.

Hello again, my friends - are you all pumped for the 4th of July?

Well, as you hoist your flags, inspect your fireworks and prepare your grills, I'd like to give you some food for thought.

On Easter Sun, Apr 1st, 2018 - celebrated TV producer and series creator Steven Bochco died from cancer. This really struck a nerve with me due to the major role that his work had played in my life during my late childhood into adolescence.

What follows is a tribute to one of the greatest and most prolific visionaries of modern TV history.

On Apr 2nd 2018, the world said goodbye to Winnie Mandela, former wife of late South African national hero, president and global icon for peace and human rights - Nelson Mandela.

This lady had an indelible effect on me as a young middle-school student, not just because she was one of the most important women in the world at that time but because she was widely accepted as a genuine freedom fighter, a term traditionally reserved for men.

Furthermore, she assumed the role of the face of "the struggle" - an affectionate nickname for the anti-apartheid movement - after her iconic husband's incarceration on trumped-up charges.

This is my tribute to her.

Earlier this week, we all received the sad news of former First Lady Barbara Bush's death. Although it was a long time in coming, her passing still shocked quite a few people because she was known as a real fighter.

Out of respect for her as a person who devoted her life to serving others, I thought I'd focus on her this week.

Not really as a biography, just some personal observations and things about her that have stuck with me over the years.

Given the celebration of International Women's Day, I'd like to focus on a gender-related matter.

Are you over 40? Can you even remember your 30's?

I celebrated my 40th with a big bash last year. Nine months later, I'm already beginning to feel 5 years older!

I get sleepy much earlier at night, have way less energy during the day and seldom have any interest in going out at night... instead preferring the peace, quiet and comfort of my sofa.

Why Men Don't Really Care About Valentine's Day

Avoid The Valentine's Dog House!

Hey there folks! How was Valentine's week?

But wait a minute (I hear you saying) - isn't it Valentine's Day, as in last week Wed?

Well yes, but I like to call it Valentine's week because that's how long all of those absent-minded or thoughtless boyfriends and hubbies have to make up for neglecting their Valentine's duty, before ending up in the "dog house" for at least 2 weeks :)

Some of you can probably relate to this scenario, either as the offender or the offended. But why does this happen? Why do some guys just not seem to get it... don't they care?
